Alex McDowall of Glasgow SUnday AFL together with Harry McNally of Lochgreen AFC have proposed a Sunday Amateur Champions League as a way for Sunday amateur football leagues to challenge each other for a national cup. The following is their "rough proposal" which will be amended in due course as more details are fleshed out. concept - Sunday Amateur Champions League Who would it involve The Sunday amateur leagues are, as far as I know, the following; Aberdeen Sunday AFL Airdrie & Coatbridge Sunday AFL Carluke & District Sunday AFL Dumfries Sunday AFL Dundee Sunday Morning AFL Dundee Welfare Sunday AFL East Ayrshire Sunday AFL Edinburgh & Districts Sunday AFL Edinburgh Sunday AFL Falkirk & District Sunday AFL Fife Sunday AFL Forfar & District Sunday AFL Glasgow Sunday AFL North Ayrshire Sunday AFL Perth & District Sunday AFL Stewarty Sunday AFL West Ayrshire Sunday AFL West Lothian Sunday AFL How it would work I am unsure of how many sunday leagues are in scotland or who would want to participate, but i am looking at a structure of 16 teams if we cant get enough leagues involved then include the finalists of the scottish sunday cup, if the finalists are champions of there leagues then its only fair that the runners up in there leagues should be included. then would then be a draw giving us 8 games with the winners going on to play 1/4 finals, semis then the final. hopefully the safa would support this and possibly help out financially ,as for the trophy would be looking at some form of sponsorship for that.the winners of the competition would be crowned kings of scotland. pros- further enhance the image and quality of sunday football and try to encourage different views which many within the scottish game towards sunday football. it would encourage sponsorship and encourage interleague participation with all looking to benefit in one way or another, saturday football will always be perceived as better than sunday football we wont ever change that but one of the things they also seem to have is look after self interest .sunday football will be able to show the true meaning and spirit of amateur football. there could also be the possibilty if saturday football accepts and decides to take on this format that the winners of the saturday champion and sunday champions could play in some sort of super cup. cons. travel would be a major downside to this with possibly encourageing venues midway between both teams , apathy could also be a factor which we would need to combat, funding for such a tournament would also come into play. on a personal note i think this kind of thing can only enhance amatuer football in scotland Thanks to Alex and Harry for their proposal.
